This poster was produced for the influential Academy Cinema of Oxford Street in London. The cinema was the first in the UK to show many Eastern European, Scandinavian and Far Eastern films. The director of the cinema, George Hoellering, was interned in the Isle of Man during World War Two and their met the artist Peter Strausfeld. After the war Hoellering invited Strausfeld to design posters for the Academy Cinema which he did until his death in 1980. All the posters designed by Strausfeld were produced from lino-cuts and their startling imagery became a regular part of the London landscape.
