Original 1885 9 1/4 inch x 5 1/8 inch engraving titled A SPANISH DANCER.

Engraved by Franz Robert Richard Brend’amour (1831 – 1915). Wood-engraver; founder of Dusseldorf art printing firm.

From the picture by Nathaniel Sichel (1843 – 1907). Nathaniel Sichel’s artistic career began at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich, where he was trained in the academic tradition by Julius Schrader. He continued his studies in Paris at the École des Beaux arts where he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1864 with a painting entitled Joseph explains the dreams of the Pharaoh. This work solidified his reputation as a painter of Orientalist and historical subjects. Among these, he is mostly known for his depictions of Oriental beauties, dressed in opulent costumes and adorned with gold coins and jewelry.
