Engraving by Edward Paxman Brandard (1819 – 1898). A nineteenth century English painter, engraver and etcher, Edward Paxman Brandard studied the techniques of graphic art under his brother, Robert Brandard (1805-1862). During the early part of his career, E. P. Brandard was best known for his steel engraved illustrations after various contemporary painters. Both brothers in fact worked closely with J. M. W. Turner on some of his famous engraved sets of landscapes. Edward Paxman Brandard also engraved Constable’s The Hay Wain and Salisbury Cathedral and was commissioned by Queen Victoria to engrave a large view of Balmoral Castle. He was a regular exhibitor at both the Royal Academy and the British Institution.
