Rare Film Posters

Original British 22 inch x 28 inch Half-Sheet Poster for the 1948 Charles Crichton Ealing Studios Comedy ANOTHER SHORE, based on the novel by Kenneth Reddin and starring Robert Beatty, Stanley Holloway, Moira Lister, Michael Medwin, Sheila Manahan, Maureen Delaney, Dermot Kelly, Irene Worth, Bill Shine, Muriel Aked and Wilfrid Brambell.

A comedy set in Dublin, with Robert Beatty as a day-dreaming Irishman, yearning for a sybaritic life in Tahiti, who appears to get his chance, but is stopped by a no-nonsense young woman (Moira Lister) who wakes him up to realities.

The poster art is by Charles Mozley (1915 – 1991).

Born in Sheffield on 29th May 1915, Mozley trained at the Sheffield School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art from 1933 to 1937. He taught anatomy, life drawing and lithography at Camberwell School of Art from 1938 to 1939. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in military intelligence during the war, ‘involved in work on camouflage’. After the war he went freelance, producing book illustrations, film and theatre posters, book jackets and posters for Shell. He produced posters for British European Airlines Corporation through the agency Colman, Prents & Varley; a poster for ‘150 Years of Lithography’ for the Victoria and Albert Museum; and a mural for the festival of Britain. He produced some fine posters for Alexander Korda’s An Ideal Husband from Tony Wysard’s original rough.

Printed by Graphic Reproductions Ltd. (Ealing’s main printer through the 1940s and 1950s)

The poster is in good condition with some tattering around the edges, particularly at the top right corner. There are foxing spots mainly along the top and a two inch tear at the bottom edge.
