Original circa 1832 10 inch x 6 7/8 inch Engraving titled THE BATTLE FIELD

Moonlit view in classical ruin, with oriental man with sword standing in the centre, woman sitting behind, three dead men lying on the ground, pole with crescent, and cannon on the right.

Engraved by James Tibbitts Willmore (1800 – 1863). Willmore was an English engraver who was born at Handsworth, Birmingham. At the age of fourteen he was apprenticed to the Birmingham engraver William Radclyffe. In 1823 he went to London where he worked for Charles Heath for three years.

After James Duffield Harding (1798 – 1863) Harding was an English landscape painter, lithographer and author of drawing manuals. His use of tinted papers and opaque paints in watercolour proved influential.

The engraving is in very good condition with a light stain in the upper left border corner. Reverse side blank.
