CASE OF DR. LAURENT

Original British 30 inch x 40 inch Quad Poster Proof (a trial print of the poster before the lettering is added) for the 1957 Jean-Paul Le Chanois Drama THE CASE OF DR. LAURENT starring Jean Gabin, Nicole Courcel, Sylvia Monfort, Arius, Daxely, Michel Barbey, Yvonne Gamy, Georges Lannes, Balpetré and Orane Demazis.

The film stars Jean Gabin as a Paris-based doctor who tries to spread the gospel of Natural Childbirth. Working in a cloistered rural community, Gabin runs up against the stone walls of fear and prejudice. His theories are proven sound when unwed mother Nicole Courcel gives birth within Gabin’s methodology.

The poster art is by Peter Strausfeld. Strausfeld was interned in the Isle of Man at the Onchan Internment Camp during the War where he met the Austrian producer George Hoellering. In 1947 Hoellering opened the Academy Cinema on Oxford Street and invited Strausfeld to produce some posters for the cinema which he did in wood and lino-cuts till his death in 1980.

The poster is in good unfolded (rolled) condition with some bottom edge wear.
