ENCOUNTERS

Original Polish 33 1/2 inch x 46 inch Poster for the 1957 Stanislaw Lenartowicz Polish Drama ENCOUNTERS (SPOTKANIA) starring Maria Kaniewska (as Stefania), Tadeusz Wozniak (as Adam), Lygia Borowczyk (as Maja), Alicja Wyszynska, Mieczyslaw Gajda, Bogdan Baer and Adam Fiut (as Wiktor).

In four love stories Stefania and Adam, film archive workers, view and describe with the help of Mai and Wiktor’s cinematographer fragments of films found under the wartime rubble.

Poster art by Waldemar Swierzy (1931 – 2013). Born in Katowice, Poland, Swierzy graduated from the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts in 1952. He was subsequently Professor in the University of Fine Arts in Poznan from 1965 and Professor in the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1994. Swierzy is one of the Polish School of Posters’ most prolific artists, having created over 2500 posters.

The poster is in very good condition in 2 separate sheets. The top sheet has a very small piece out of the top right corner and a few nicks in the top edge. The poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.
