Original 1826 19 inch x 15 inch Etching and Engraving titled THE ERRAND BOY.

A yard, with a boy sitting on a pony, reaching into his pocket with one hand, an old woman holding a basket with a bottle and food, looking up at him, standing by the porch of the house, with a younger lady holding a child by the hand on the right.

From the painting by Sir David Wilkie (1785 – 1841). Sir David Wilkie RA was a Scottish painter, especially known for his genre scenes. He painted successfully in a wide variety of genres, including historical scenes, portraits, including formal royal ones, and scenes from his travels to Europe and the Middle East. His main base was in London, but he died and was buried at sea, off Gibraltar, returning from his first trip to the Middle East. He was sometimes known as the “people’s painter”.

Printed and published by Abraham Raimbach (1776 – 1843).

The etching is in good condition with some foxing and general age-related toning and minor defects from handling.
