Original Polish 26 inch x 38 inch Poster for the 1989 Istvan Szabo Biographical Drama HANUSSEN, based on the Jewish clairvoyant magician Erik Jan Hanussen’s autobiography and starring Klaus-Maria Brandauer (in the title role as Klaus Schneider/Eric Jan Hanussen), Erland Josephson, Ildiko Bansagi, Walter Schmidinger and Grazyna Szapolowska.

Austrian Klaus Schneider, who later comes to be known as Erik Jan Hanussen is wounded during World War I. While recovering in the care of Dr. Emil Bettelheim (Josephson), the Doctor discovers that Schneider possesses empathic powers. After the war, with one friend as his manager and another as his lover, Schneider changes his name and goes to Berlin to perform in halls and theatres as a hypnotist and mind reader. His purported powers bring him to the attention of the Nazis which cause his fame and power – as well as his own troubles – to grow.

The poster art is by Jakub Erol (1941 – 2018). Born in Zamosc, Poland, Erol was a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He did his diploma under the guidance of Professor Henryk Tomaszewski. He has produced posters, theatre set designs and book illustration. Winner of numerous awards for his poster designs.
