Original 9 3/4 inch x 7 3/4 inch Portrait of JOHN PENROSE in the 1949 Robert Hamer Classic Ealing Studios Black Comedy KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS, based on the novel by Roy Horniman.

Director Robert Hamer’s fiendishly funny Kind Hearts and Coronets stands as one of Ealing Studios’ greatest triumphs, and one of the most wickedly black comedies ever made.

The portrait is by Jack Dooley. Jack Dooley first entered the film industry as stills photographic assistant at the Stoll Studios, Kew Bridge, London in 1919.

The portrait, removed from the original key book, is in very good condition with a ‘REFERENCE ONLY’ stamp at top left.
