Original French 22 inch x 15 1/4 inch page with printed watercolour titled LA PREMIERE REUNION DU MINISTERE BRIAND, A L’ELYSEE (30 OCTOBRE 1915)

Aristide Pierre Henri Briand (1862 – 1932) was a French statesman who served eleven terms as Prime Minister of France during the French Third Republic. In October 1915 following an unsuccessful French offensive and the entry of Bulgaria, Briand again became Prime Minister (29 October 1915).

He is seen here with Gaston Doumergue, Étienne Clémentel, General Galieri, Jules Guesde, Charles de Freycinet (Minister of State), President Poincaré, Paul Painlevé, Denys Cochin, Louis Malvy (Interior Minister), Albert Métin (Minister of Works) and René Besnard

Painted by José Simont (1875 – 1968). Barcelona-born José Simont Guillén was an internationally admired magazine illustrator during the first half of the 20th century. He moved to Paris in 1898 where, during the First World War he produced several drawings of French soldiers, almost always highly sympathetic and sometimes quite sentimental.
