”The Mahogany Tree” is a poem by William Makepeace Thackeray.

The cartoon is by Edward Linley Sambourne (1844 – 1910) a draughtsman for the satirical magazine Punch for more than forty years and rising to the position of ‘First Cartoonist’ in his final decade.

Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term “cartoon” in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.

The page is in good to very good condition with a vertical centre fold and 3 tiny holes along it. Reverse side blank..
