MASTERLESS
£55.00
Original 15 3/4 inch x 23 1/2 inch Engraving titled MASTERLESS.
Drawing by George Housman Thomas (1824 -1867) an English engraver, illustrator and Victorian era painter.
The refusal by The Illustrated London News to lend his pictures for a retrospective exhibition of his work in 1869 led to his brother’s estrangement from the journal. William Luson Thomas, a wood engraver and publisher by trade and a social reformer by inclination, then went on to found his own highly influential journal, The Graphic.
From The Graphic September 17, 1870
The engraving is in very good condition with 1 vertical centre fold and printed text on the reverse.
