The cartoon is by Harry Furniss (1854 – 1925). A British illustrator. He established his career on the Illustrated London News before moving to Punch. He also illustrated Lewis Carroll’s novel Sylvie and Bruno.
Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term “cartoon” in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.
The page is in good to very good condition with 2 horizontal folds and 1 vertical fold (there is another softer fold line running parallel with this). There is creasing at the upper left with a 3 inch tear from the top. Reverse side blank.
