The monument of James Ward, RA, with statue of the muse in a niche, in robes with palette in left hand and head bowed.

The monument is in Kensal Green Cemetery, Paddington, London.

James Ward (1851 – 1924) was an important figure in the Irish and British art scene in the late 19th and early 20th century. He is best known in Ireland for his striking murals in Dublin City Hall depicting scenes from Dublin’s history.


Lettered below image with title: “From the Picture in the Possession of the Publisher”.

Engraving by Richard Austin Artlett (1807 – 1873). An English engraver and painter best known as an engraver of sculpture, in particular for plates in The Art Journal.

After the sculpture by John Henry Foley (1818 – 1874). An Irish sculptor, working in London. He is best known for his statues of Daniel O’Connell in Dublin, and of Prince Albert for the Albert Memorial in London.
