A scene from ‘Gil Blas’, a picaresque novel by Alain-René Lesage published between 1715 and 1735.
Engraved by Charles George Lewis (1808 – 1880). Line, stipple, mezzotint engraver and etcher. Best known for his numerous engravings after Edwin Landseer (from 1837).
After Gilbert Stuart Newton (1794 – 1835). British painter.
