£260.00
Original British 12 inch x 8 5/8 inch Trade Advertisement from Kinematograph Weekly for the 1932 Adolf Trotz German Drama RASPUTIN (RASPUTIN, DAMON DER FRAUEN) starring Conrad Veidt, Paul Otto, Hermine Sterler, Kenneth Rive, Alexandra Sorina, Karl Ludwig Diehl, Ida Perry, Charlotte Ander, Elza Temary, Brigitte Horney and Bernhard Goetzke.
The film was produced by Eric Hakim, who in 1931, directed the dubbing in English of the original German version of M. The dubbing was made in England, where Peter Lorre was one of the few original cast to be re-recorded in English. Hakim was also the owner of the prestigious Academy Cinema in Oxford Street, London, although this film was trade shown at the Piccadilly Theatre, located at 16 Denman Street, behind Piccadilly Circus and adjacent to the Regent Palace Hotel, in the City of Westminster, England.
Co-star Kenneth Rive (1918 – 2002) founded Gala Film Distributors in 1952. The company was the biggest British distributor of foreign films and many of their posters can be found in my shop.
The film portrays the influence wielded by Grigori Rasputin over the Russian Royal Family around the time of the First World War.
The Advertisement is in very good condition with 2 staple holes at the left edge.
Trade advertisements are colourful posters aimed at cinema managers, which were either slipped in, or part of, the weekly film trade journals which were available to them by subscription but were not sold to the general public. Most were designed to be pulled out, and some were attached by staples. Most have the date in tiny letters in one of the top corners.
