Original 1878 10 1/2 inch x 6 3/8 inch engraving titled THE RESCUE – LION HUNTING IN ARABIA
Depicting a group of men hunting a lion with guns. The lion has one petrified man, clutching a bloody dagger, pinned to the floor underneath it, whilst the others approach the lion in a semi-circle from the left, armed with a variety of rifles.
Engraved by John Carr Armytage (1802 – 1897). Engraver who worked much for Virtue & Co, the publishers of ‘The Art Journal’ in which many of his plates appeared .
After Charles Alexandre Coessin de la Fosse (1829-1910). A French neoclassisist painter and engraver.
