Thriller. A diary containing politically explosive secrets is stolen from the French embassy, but instead of passing it to the spies in charge of the theft, the thief spirits it away aboard the Orient Express. The spies follow the thief and try to find out where he has hidden the diary. As matters become complex, with people having to change carriages at different points in the journey, one of the spies and the thief become obliged to join in a game of cards. Soon there is a fight, and a murder, and a businessman travelling with his secretary (both intent on romance) find themselves accused of a terrible crime. A French Resistance hero, now chief of police, attempts to unravel the truth and stop the killer from escaping.

Trade advertisements are colourful posters aimed at cinema managers, which were either slipped in, or part of, the weekly film trade journals which were available to them by subscription but were not sold to the general public. Most were designed to be pulled out, and some were attached by staples. Most have the date in tiny letters in one of the top corners.
