Men, women and fauns carrying baskets of grapes, dancing with linked hands, to a tune played by a faun sitting under a vine on the left.
Engraving by Thomas Garner (1789 – 1868). An English engraver, best known for engraving plates for The Art Journal. He lived in Birmingham nearly all his life and was an active promoter of the study of art in Birmingham.
From a painting by Thomas Stothard, R.A. (1755 – 1834). Stothard entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1777 where he began long-term friendships with John Flaxman and William Blake. It was during this time at the Royal Academy that Stothard began producing illustrations for books, which was to become one of the most important and enduring aspects of his career.
