Original 1794 14 3/8 inch x 18 1/4 inch Etching and Engraving titled THE WOMAN ACCUSED OF ADULTERY

Christ standing and pointing to a young woman who stands on the left with bowed head, while looking back at a man who walks off stroking his beard, his other fist clenched, unwilling to cast the first stone, with other men walking away to right and figures grouped watching behind to left, one sitting on the ground and pointing at words from the Torah written at the woman’s feet.

Inscription: Lettered below image with the title, reference “Vide. John. ch. 8. ch. 7.” and “W. Artaud Pinxt. / London Publish’d October 20th. 1794, by Thos. Macklin, Poet Gallery, Fleet Street. / P. Thomson Sculpt.”

The etching is in very good condition with a soft crease in the upper left corner border, general age-related toning, foxing and minor defects from handling.
