Original 1878 9 1/8 inch x 7 1/2 inch engraving titled THE POSTILLION
Small coach going down a road; the coach is drawn by two horses, one of them mounted by a man; inside the coach are two passengers, one of whom is seen clinging onto the window frame; deep furrows have formed on the road.
Engraved by Adolphe Lalauze (1838 – 1906). Designer, watercolourist and etcher who worked in Paris. He won various awards and was made a knight of the Legion of Honour.
From the painting by Jean Richard Goubie (1842 – 1899). Paris-born painter. Studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1868 travelled abroad, including to Egypt, Palestine and Syria with Gérôme, Léon Bonnat and Albert Goupil.
