Drawings by Eric Fraser

Born in London in 1902, Eric Fraser attended Walter Richard Sickert’s evening classes at Westminster School of Art and went on to Goldsmith’s College. From 1926 Fraser worked for the Radio Times and many other magazines, and designed posters for Shell, the GPO and the Ministry of Information. He produced murals for the British Empire Exhibitions in 1923 and 1938, and for the Origins of the People Pavilion at the Festival of Britain in 1951.

The New Gallery was originally built as an art gallery in 1888. In 1910, the interior was converted into The New Gallery Restaurant, but it was converted again in January 1913, this time to a cinema. Enlargement and modifications were made to the cinema in 1925, including the installation of a Wurlitzer organ. It was the location of the UK showing of the first full-length animated cartoon, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1938.

The poster is in very good unfolded (rolled) condition and actually printed on linen.
