BACKGROUND

Original British 30 inch x 40 inch Quad Poster for the 1953 Daniel Birt Drama BACKGROUND, based on the play by Warren Chetham Strode and starring Valerie Hobson, Philip Friend, Norman Wooland, Janette Scott, Mandy Miller, Thora Hird and Richard Wattis and with the music of Franz Liszt.

The film was produced by Herbert Mason for the short-lived company Group 3 which was set up by The National Film Finance Corporation as an independent unit to finance low-budget films with untried directors with John Grierson as chairman.

Poster art by Frederick Middlehurst (1918 – 1982). Painter, designer, illustrator and engraver, born at Great Harwood, Lancashire. He studied at Blackburn School of Art, and then at The Royal College of Art.
