Original British 11 1/4 inch x 8 1/2 inch illustrated 16 page Brochure for the 1946 Basil Dearden Ealing Studios Priosner-of-War Drama THE CAPTIVE HEART starring Michael Redgrave, Jack Warner, Mervyn Johns, Jack Lambert, Basil Radford, Jimmy Hanley, Gordon Jackson, Ralph Michael, Derek Bond, Rachel Kempson, Guy Middleton, Gladys Henson and Karel Stepanek.
A series of stories about the lives and loves of nine men in a Prisoner of War Camp over five years. Location shooting in the British occupied part of Germany adds believability.
Brochure produced by S John Woods (1915 – 1997). S John Woods worked for Fox in the 1930s, designed posters for the Old Vic, Covent Garden and Sadlers Wells before joining Ealing Studios’ advertising department in 1943 employing well known artists to design their posters.
Internal drawings by Lieutenant John Godfrey Bernard Worsley, R.N.V.R. (16 February 1919 – 3 October 2000). Worsley was a prolific British artist and illustrator, best known for his naval battle scenes, and portraits of high-ranking officers and political figures. One of the very few active service artists of the Second World War, Worsley was the only person to render contemporary sea-warfare in situ, and the only official war artist captured by the Germans. Detained in the infamous prisoner-of-war camp Marlag O, Worsley documented prison life with supplies provided by the Red Cross, his expertise employed in the forging of identity papers, and an ingenious escape attempt requiring the construction of a mannequin named Albert R.N.
The brochure is in very good condition with minor edge wear to the cover
