DIAMOND FRONTIER
£160.00
Original 1941 British 17 inch x 22 inch Trade Advertisement removed from a British Film Trade Journal for the 1940 Harold D. Schuster Adventure DIAMOND FRONTIER, based on the story “A Modern Monte Cristo” by Edmund L. Hartmann & Stanley Rubin and starring Victor McLaglen, John Loder, Anne Nagel, Cecil Kellaway, Philip Dorn, Francis Ford, Hugh Sothern, Ferris Taylor and J. Anthony Hughes.
The South African diamond rush provides Universal with a pseudo-Western situation – the old one about bringing law and order to a burgeoning town – and a decent role for McLaglen.
On the reverse is an 11 inch x 17 inch Trade Advert for the 1940 Marcel Varnel Wartime Drama NEUTRAL PORT starring Will Fyffe, Leslie Banks, Yvonne Arnaud, Phyllis Calvert, Hugh McDermott, John Salew, Cameron Hall, Frederick Valk, Anthony Holles, Wally Patch, Dennis Wyndham and Albert Lieven.
A crusty sea captain steals an enemy supply ship after his ship is sunk by a U-boat during the opening days of World War II.
The advert is in very good condition with one vertical centre fold from where it was removed from the journal, and one horizontal fold. There are staple holes along the vertical fold.
Trade advertisements are colourful posters aimed at cinema managers, which were either slipped in, or part of, the weekly film trade journals which were available to them by subscription but were not sold to the general public. The large size Trade advertisements are about the size of US half sheet posters and have a centre fold which is usually hard to discern when flat. Most were designed to be pulled out, and some were attached by staples. Most have the date in tiny letters in one of the top corners.
The publishers own copies from the 1930’s were destroyed by fire and water damage during the Blitz and Wartime paper drives decimated those held by cinemas making them quite rare.
