DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK
£160.00
Original 1940 British 17 inch x 22 inch Trade Advertisement from To-Day’s Cinema for the 1939 John Ford Western Drama DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK, based on the novel by Walter D. Edmonds and starring Claudette Colbert, Henry Fonda, Edna May Oliver, Eddie Collins, John Carradine, Dorris Bowdon, Jessie Ralph, Arthur Shields, Robert Lowery Roger Imhof, Francis Ford, Ward Bond, Chief John Big Tree, Noble Johnson, Mae Marsh and Tom Tyler.
Newlyweds Gil and Lana Martin try to establish a farm in the Mohawk Valley but are menaced by Indians and Tories as the Revolutionary War begins.
The advertisement artwork is by A. “Jock” W. Hinchliffe.
Hinchliffe was born in Perth, Scotland. In 1953 he had a studio in Chalk Farm, North London, where he produced a series of six oil paintings as publicity for 20th Century Fox’s “The Robe”. He had been engaged by Fox in 1926 and produced posters and ads continuously for them, and for Disney, well into the 1960s.
The advert is in good condition with one vertical centre fold with 2 holes along it caused by staple removal. The advert was lightly folded horizontally at one time. There is white paint in the ‘W’ of Mohawk, probably to cover marks. There is a one inch tear at either edge and signs of written numbers just above the lower orange border. Hinchcliffe’s signature is visible in the lower right corner.
