He bacame associated with a film studio in 1932, and in 1935 he went to Hollywood on its behalf to study motion picture photography as assistant to Gregg Toland. Returning to Mexico the following year, he began a prolific career as the cameraman of well over a hundred films, many of which won him international awards. He worked for Luis Bunuel and John Ford, among others, but his major contribution was on the films of Emilio Fernandez, the dense atmosphere of which owes much to Figueroas’s handling of the camera.
