Original 1808 9 3/8 inch x 7 inch Etching and Engraving of HENDRIK MARTENSZOON SORGH (c.1610 – 1670). A Dutch Golden Age painter of genre works.
Portrait of Hendrik Martensz Sorgh (wrongly titled Nicolaes Berchem), half-length in profile to right but looking at the viewer, wearing a cloak with collar, with wide-brimmed hat; after Carel Fabritius but formerly attributed to Rembrandt.
Engraved by Niccolò Schiavonetti (1771-1813). Stipple engraver, brother of Luigi Schiavonetti.
From the portrait by Carel Fabritius (1622–1654). A Dutch painter. He was a pupil of Rembrandt and worked in his studio in Amsterdam. Fabritius, who was a member of the Delft School, developed his own artistic style and experimented with perspective and lighting.
The engraving is in very good condition. It has been trimmed on all sides.
