HOW TO BE LOVED

Original Russian 16 1/4 inch x 23 1/4 inch Poster for the 1963 Wojciech Has Polish Drama HOW TO BE LOVED (JAK BYC KOCHANA), with a script by novelist Kazimierz Brandys and starring Barbara Kraftowna, Zbigniew Cybulski, Artur Mlodnicki, Wienczyslaw Glinski and Wieslaw Golas.

Wojciech Has concentrated his story on the love of a woman for a man, and ended it with the man’s suicide. Has, who always saw human destiny in existential terms, conceived of life as the result of numerous causes linked together at random, causes that almost always generate tragic events. The story of How To Be Loved is divided into two sections – the Nazi occupation and the present – joined together by the fatalistic relationship of the heroine and the man.
