IL GRIDO

Original 1962 U.S. 27 inch x 41 inch 1-Sheet Poster for the 1957 Michelangelo Antonioni Drama IL GRIDO, based on a story by Leonora Thuna and starring Alida Valli, Steve Cochran, Betsy Blair, Dorian Gray, Gabriella Pallotta and Lynn Shaw.

The film depicts a world of heartbreaking alienation, with characters riven by trauma, cast against the stunning backdrop of northern Italy’s Po Valley where the director spent his childhood. When sugar refinery worker Aldo is jilted by his mistress, Irma, he takes to the road. With daughter in tow, Aldo wanders the Po River delta, seeking temporary but always illusory respite with a series of lovers, who only serve to remind him of Irma.

Poster art by Sandro Symeoni (1928 – 2007). An Italian illustrator, best known for his pictorial works dedicated to cinema poster design. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Ferrara, he began working as a caricaturist for some local newspapers. In the early fifties he moved to Rome where he started working as a film illustrator. In over fifty years in his career he has created more than 3000 posters collaborating with the main Italian and American film companies.

The poster is in very good folded condition with a Canadian censor stamp lower right.
