La Vie de bohème is one of the grandest film adaptations of Henry Murger’s 1851 collection of short stories “Scènes de la vie de bohème”, which had previously provided the material for Giacomo Puccini’s 1896 opera “La Bohème” and here directed by Marcel L’Herbier, one of the great avant-garde filmmakers of the silent era.

Still by Aldo Rossano Graziati (G.R. Aldo) (1905 – 1953). Graziati was a stills photographer in French film studios and eventually a cameraman. His first film as a cinematographer was La terra trema in 1948.
