Original Russian 24 inch x 32 inch Poster for the 1949 Georg Wildhagen East German Opera Drama THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO (FIGAROS HOCHZEIT), based on the opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Lorenzo Da Ponte, which was itself based on the play ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ by Pierre Beaumarchais and starring Willy Domgraf-Fassbaender, Angelika Hauff, Sabine Peters, Mathieu Ahlersmeyer and Elsa Wagner.
Shortly after WWII, the DEFA Studios produced a series of operas and operettas which belonged to the classical German musical heritage. This enchanting film, the very first opera production of DEFA, stands out because of its lavish decor and costumes, its outstanding actors and their masterful voices of that time.
Poster art by Anatoly Pavlovich Belski (1896 – 1970). One of the first Russian poster designers who made a valuable contribution to cinema advertising. Began work in the 1920s.
The poster is in good to very good folded condition.
