Original 11 1/2 inch x 8 1/2 inch Engraving titled TREATY OF WESTPHALIA.

The Ratification of the Treaty of Münster; the ‘Ratskammer’ (council chamber) of the Town Hall of Münster, including portraits of seventy-seven men; Dutch delegates stand behind a table at centre, with two Spanish delegates to the right; a Franciscan monk stands behind the Spaniards at far right.

After Gerard Ter Borch II (Terburg) (1617 – 1681). Gerard ter Borch specialised in painting miniature portraits in the 1640s, and later established a new type of small full-length portrait. He also depicted genre scenes. Both portraits and genre scenes are meticulously painted, with particular attention paid to the quality of the costumes, the textures of satins and silks.

The Graphic was a British weekly illustrated newspaper, first published on 4 December 1869 by William Luson Thomas’s company Illustrated Newspapers Limited. It continued to be published weekly under this title until 23 April 1932 and then changed title to The National Graphic between 28 April and 14 July 1932; it then ceased publication, after 3,266 issues.
