Original circra 1846 10 inch x 7 1/4 inch Engraving and Etching titled THE MONASTERY – FROM THE PICTURE IN THE ROYAL COLLECTION
A scene on the Via Appia Antica near Ariccia (Rome). The church is S. Maria Assunta (designed by Bernini), with a group of monks from a monastery behind walking with a donkey with peasant women kneeling in prayer at the side of the road.
Print by Edward Goodall (1795 – 1870). Line engraver of landscapes, book illustrations; born at Leeds, entirely self-taught, practised painting and engraving from the age of 16.
From the painting “Evening” by Oswald Achenbach (1827 – 1905). A German painter born in Düsseldorf. Throughout his long career Achenbach was a landscape painter, first working mainly in his homeland before study trips to Bavaria, northern Italy and Switzerland encouraged him to expand his repertoire.
