Powerful stuff with a riveting performance from Sean Connery as a half-crazed cop who metes out rough treatment to suspect Ian Bannen, an epileptic who’s thought to have molested a child. American Lumet seems quite at home on the British beat, examining our police with a canny stranger’s eye.
