Leila Hyams (1905 – 1977) was born in New York City. Green-eyed blonde leading lady of Hollywood films of the 1920s and 1930s. The daughter of vaudevillians, she joined her parents’ act while still a child and later appeared on the legitimate stage. She then turned to modeling with great success and her photographs adorned ad campaigns for several products. She made her screen debut in 1924 and subsequently appeared in many late silents and early talkies, mainly for Warner Bros. and MGM, typically as a wholesome ingenue. Memorable as the heroine of Tod Browning’s ‘Freaks’ (1932). In 1927 she married Phil Berg, who later became a top talent agent. She retired from thye screen in 1936.
