After the success of Hell Drivers, star Stanley Baker and writer/director Cy Endfield teamed up again for this modest but strangely effective action yarn set in Spain. Baker plays a drifter who gets a job aboard Victor McLaglen’s salvage vessel, Fury. At first, McLaglen assumes the role as Baker’s mentor, but then both of them compete for local siren Luciana Paluzzi – culminating in a rescue bid in a storm for Baker and a drunken binge for McLaglen, who sobers up when he realises he’s well past his prime. Sea Fury is a study in macho posturing, failing sexuality and the virility of the weather: a heady brew that also features an early role for Robert Shaw.
