£210.00

Original British 11 inch x 17 inch Trade Advertisement removed from Kinematohraph Weekly May 23rd 1940 for the 1939 Carol Reed Drama THE STARS LOOK DOWN, based on the novel by A.J. Cronin and starring Michael Redgrave, Margaret Lockwood, Emlyn Williams, Nancy Price, Edward Rigby, Cecil Parker, Linden Travers, Milton Rosmer, Allan Jeayes and George Carney.

Classic drama about an idealistic Welsh coal miner’s son who uses his education to fight against dangerous working conditions. The young man makes a stand when he discovers lives are at risk, and also finds himself fighting to save his marriage.

For some reason the advert has been titled ALIBI with the author’s name below, a film that Lockwood did not star in till 1942.

The advert is in good to very good condition with one horizontal fold. There is a crease at the upper left corner and one or two edge nicks

Trade advertisements are colourful posters aimed at cinema managers, which were either slipped in, or part of, the weekly film trade journals which were available to them by subscription but were not sold to the general public. Most have the date in tiny letters in one of the top corners.
