TREE OF WOODEN CLOGS

£99.50

Original U.S. 27 inch x 41 inch 1-Sheet Poster for the 1978 Ermanno Olmi Drama TREE OF WOODEN CLOGS (L’ALBERO DEGLI ZOCCOLI) starring Luigi Ornaghi, Frencesca Moriggi, Omar Brignoli, Antonio Ferrari and Teresa Brescianini.

Italian master Olmi writes and directs a rigorous, majestic panorama of 4 farming families in Lombardy during a year at the end of the 20th century. Filming on an abandoned farm for four months, Olmi adapted neorealist techniques to tell his story, enlisting local people to live as their own ancestors had, speaking in their native dialect on locations with which they were intimately familiar.

Poster art by Ron Di Scenza. Born in 1954 in Ohio he studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. At the age of twenty he embarked on a career in illustration that would last twenty years. A 1978 poster commission by Italian neorealist film director Ermanno Olmi gave Di Scenza his big break. For inspiration, the director gave Di Scenza a private showing of his masterpiece, The Tree of the Wooden Clogs, in a New York theatre he had closed to the public for an afternoon. Di Scenza’s brilliant interpretation of the film, which was that year’s Cannes Film Festival grand prize winner, became a wildly popular poster shown all over New York City and seen by everyone.

The poster is in fine folded condition.
