£79.50
Original Belgian 14 1/2 inch x 21 1/2 inch Poster for the 1971 Roy Ward Baker Hammer Horror Movie DR. JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE starring Ralph Bates, Martine Beswick, Gerald Sim, Lewis Fiander, Susan Brodrick, Dorothy Alison, Ivor Dean, Philip Madoc, Irene Bradshaw, Neil Wilson and Paul Whitsun-Jones.
In foggy London Dr Jekyll experiments on newly deceased women determined to discover an elixir for immortal life. Success enables his spectacular transformation into the beautiful but psychotic Sister Hyde who stalks the dark alleys of Whitechapel for young, innocent, female victims, ensuring continuation of the bloodstained research. With each transformation Sister Hyde becomes the more dominant personality, determined to eventually suppress the frail, ineffectual Dr Jekyll forever.
Poster art by Constantin Belinsky (1904 – 1999). Influenced by sculpture and a fan of the bright colors of lithography, Constantin Belinsky was one of the most prolific cinema poster artists of the 1950s.
He arrived in Paris in 1925 and produced his first posters for the distributor Gray Film from 1930. His passion for sculpture is reflected in his compositions, in particular those carved faces which seem to be worked with a bevel. Like his poster friend Boris Grinsson, Belinsky worked little during the Second World War. From 1945, he joined the poster artists’ union, and until 1960, American companies – Fox, Universal and Columbia – solicited him. In the 1970s, he used photomontage, a technique which has been his for several years, far removed from the models painted in gouache.
The poster is in very good condition with a very soft horizontal fold
