Etched by Myles Birket Foster (1825 – 1899). One of England’s greatest nineteenth century artists of rustic and pastoral scenes. He was trained as a wood engraver and designed many book illustrations after completing his apprenticeship in 1846. He later devoted himself primarily to watercolour painting of rustic subjects in a sentimental style that made him a favourite artist for manufacturers of greetings cards.
