Andrew Vabre Devine (1905 – 1977) was an American character actor known for his distinctive raspy, crackly voice and roles in Western films, including his role as Cookie, the sidekick of Roy Rogers in 10 feature films. He also appeared alongside John Wayne in films such as “Stagecoach” (1939), “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, and “How the West Was Won” (both 1962). .

Portrait by Ray Jones. Jones began taking stills at Universal in 1922 and stayed there till 1933 when he moved to Fox to head their stills department and in 1934 took over the portrait gallery from Otto Dyar. After freelancing for a year he went back to Universal to head their portrait gallery.

The portrait is in very good condition.
