Original British 17 inch x 11 inch Trade Advertisement from Kinematograph Weekly for the 1950 Henry Hathaway Adventure THE BLACK ROSE, based on the novel by Thomas B. Costain and starring Tyrone Power, Orson Welles, Cécile Aubry, Jack Hawkins, Michael Rennie, Finlay Currie, Herbert Lom, Mary Clare, Robert Blake, Alfonso Bedoya, Gibb McLaughlin, James Robertson Justice, Laurence Harvey, Henry Oscar, Peter Sellers and Torin Thatcher.

In the 13th century, Walter of Gurnie (Power), a disinherited Saxon youth, is forced to flee England. With his friend, Tristram (Hawkins), he falls in with the army of the fierce but avuncular General Bayan (Welles), and journeys all the way to China, where both men become involved in intrigues in the court of Kublai Khan.

The advertisement artwork is by A. “Jock” W. Hinchliffe.
Hinchliffe was born in Perth, Scotland. In 1953 he had a studio in Chalk Farm, North London, where he produced a series of six oil paintings as publicity for 20th Century Fox’s “The Robe”. He had been engaged by Fox in 1926 and produced posters and ads continuously for them, and for Disney, well into the 1960s.

The Advertisement is in very good condition with a horizontal centre fold with 2 spale holes along it.
