Original 9 3/4 inch x 7 5/8 inch Portrait of composter FRANCIS CHAGRIN for the 1948 Bernard Knowles Football Pools Comedy EASY MONEY, adapted from the play by Arnold Ridley .

Francis Chagrin (1905 – 1972) was a composer of film scores and popular orchestral music, as well as a conductor. He was also the “organizer and chief moving spirit” who founded the Society for the Promotion of New Music. Apart from “Divertimento”, s short, stirring piece of music in “Easy Money” he also composed music for “Helter Skelter” (1949), “Last Holiday” (1950), “Castle in the Air” (1952), “The Intruder” (1954), “An Inspector Calls” (1954), “The Colditz Story” (1955), “Danger Within” (1959) and “Greyfriars Bobby” (1961).

Photograph by John Jay (1920 – 2005). John Jay was born in 1920 in London. His career began at the age of fifteen when he left school to become a photographer’s apprentice. He was one of Britain’s top motion picture photographers who traveled the world and worked on the sets of such films as Holiday Camp, Good-Time Girl, The Quatermass Xperiment, The Curse of Frankenstein, The Day the Earth Caught Fire, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars.

The still is in very good condition with a nick in the upper edge and slight warping caused by synopsis tacked to the reverse.
