Original 1832 9 1/2 inch x 6 7/8 inch etching and engraving titled GEORGE ABBOT, ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY
Portrait of George Abbot, three-quarter-length, slightly turned to the right, one hand holding a book and the other leaning on a staff, dressed in a chimere over his rochet, a Canterbury cap on his head with a ruff about his neck, books on the table to the right and drapery beyond. Illustration to Lodge’s ‘Portraits’ (8vo edition, London 1821-34.
Print by William Henry Mote (1803 – 1871). He was an English stipple and line engraver, primarily known for his portraits. He produced etchings for reference books, as well as original etchings. Mote became a member of the Royal Academy in his twenties and his portraits hang in the National Portrait Gallery, London..
