Original British 27 inch x 40 inch 1-Sheet Poster for the 1986 Ken Russell Horror Movie GOTHIC starring Gabriel Byrne, Julian Sands, Natasha Richardson and Timothy Spall.

The film is a fictionalized retelling of the Shelleys’ visit to Lord Byron in Villa Diodati by Lake Geneva, shot in Gaddesden Place. It concerns their competition to write a horror story, which ultimately led to Mary Shelley writing “Frankenstein” and John Polidori writing “The Vampyre.”

Poster design by Richard Bird (1948 – 1993). Born in Kenya in 1948 Bird studied at the Brighton College of Art in 1968 and in the mid-1980s he set up his own consultancy, taking on a wide variety of work for film and theatre. Among the posters he produced for the cinema were Jack Clayton’s The Passion of Judith Hearne, John Schlesinger’s The Falcon and the Snowman and Charles Sturridge’s A Handful of Dust.

The poster is in good folded condition with a cross fold tear and creasing upper left and 2 extra fold lines.
