Original British 12 inch x 8 1/4 inch Trade Advertisement from Kinematograph Weekly for the 1920 Marcel L’Herbier French Drama JUDGMENT OF THE DEEP (L’HOMME DU LARGE), based on the short story “Un drame au bord de la mer” by Honoré de Balzac and starring Jaque Catelain, Roger Karl, Charles Boyer, Philippe Hériat, Marcelle Pradot, Claire Prélia and Claude Autant-Lara.
Nolff, a tough Breton fisherman is happy: his wife has just given birth to a son, Michel. His only wish is to make him a fisherman like him. But when he becomes a man, Michel becomes a good-for-nothing who spends his time in taverns with his evil genius friend Gwenn la Taupe. The sea will be his judge.
Marcel L’Herbier (1888 – 1979) was a French filmmaker who achieved prominence as an avant-garde theorist and imaginative practitioner with a series of silent films in the 1920s.
