Original French 47 inch x 63 inch Poster for the 1934 Raymond Bernard Drama LES MISERABLES, based on the novel by Victor Hugo and starring Harry Baur, Charles Vanel, Paul Azaïs, Max Dearly, Charles Dullin, Émile Genevois, Henry Krauss, Georges Mauloy, Lucien Nat, Jean Servais, Robert Vidalin, Orane Demazis, Florelle, Josseline Gaël and Marguerite Moreno.

Hailed by film critics around the world as the greatest screen adapation of Victor Hugo’s mammoth nineteenth-century novel, Raymond Bernard’s dazzling, nearly five-hour film is a breathtaking tour de force, unfolding with the depth and detail of its source. Featuring stunning art direction and cinematography and unforgettable performances by the exquisite Harry Baur, as Jean Valjean, and the legendary Charles Vanel, as Inspector Javert, Les misérables is one of the triumphs of French filmmaking.

Poster art by David Olère (1902 – 1985). A Polish-born French painter and sculptor. Olère studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, and upon completion of his studies at the age of 16, moved to Danzig and later Berlin, where he exhibited woodcuts at museums and art houses. In 1921 he was hired by Ernst Lubitsch at the Europäische Film Allianz to work as a set builder for the film “Das Weib des Pharao”. Olère moved to Paris in 1923 and settled in Montparnasse, where he designed costumes and publicity posters for Paramount Pictures amongst others.

The poster is in very good condition and has been linen-backed.
