Jill (Brigitte Bardot) is a famous fashion model and movie star who withdraws from the world at the height of her success and returns home. Here she meets and falls in love with Fabio (Marcello Mastroianni), an attractive older man who was once married to one of her friends. With no one else left whom she can trust, Jill depends on Fabio to protect her. However, he seems to be more interested in a play he is directing than shielding Jill from the intrusions of the press.
